2020 Sino-Foreign University Library Annual Conference Held in Wenzhou-Kean University

On the morning of September 4, the first session of the 2020 Sino-Foreign University Library Annual Conference was successfully held online by Wenzhou-Kean University. More than 150 librarians and professionals from all over the world attended the conference. The conference is themed Challenges | Innovation | Development.

Mr. Le Yang, the Acting Library Director of Wenzhou-Kean University, hosted the conference virtually from his apartment. He was still practicing self-quarantine after returning to China from the United States. He expressed that he was glad to have this opportunity to communicate with the professionals via the online platform at this challenging time of the pandemic.

Dr. Eric Yang, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of Wenzhou-Kean University, delivered a welcome speech on-site. He pointed out that emerging technologies have a significant impact on the whole process of higher education innovation. Academic libraries are actively seeking new roles under the circumstances. University libraries should take the opportunities and face the challenges with great efforts together.

Ms. Loida Garcia-Febo, the 2018/2019 President of American Library Association and the presidential candidate for the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, delivered an incredible keynote speech. Her topic is “Challenges, Innovation & Development: Librarians at the Forefront Supporting Communities as Technologies Transform our World.” She shared the impact of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, on libraries and cases of libraries exploring emerging technologies in the United States.

Besides, at the first session of the conference, Dr. Lian Ruan of the UIUC, Mr. Henry E of the SusTech, Ms. Liping Yang and Ms. Xin Jiang of XJTLU, Neil Smyth of UNNC, Mr. Philip Kisray of Wiley, and Ms. Freya You of CNKI also conducted their insightful presentations. The presenters shared the latest research topics, academic research analysis, intellectual achievement, educational publishing innovation, and new engineering education resources.
