In this workshop, you will learn how to quickly access the characteristics of individual, peer, and institutional research output and discover potential collaborators. Besides, you will learn how to use SciVal to view the most recent global research hotspots in this training.

The following topics are covered in the training:

  • Research experience sharing.
  • An overview of Scopus and an explanation of the search function.
  • How Scopus can assist in topic selection.
  • Logical construction of topic networks.

Database Introduction:

Scopus is a source-neutral abstract and citation database curated by independent subject matter experts. It contains information about 27 broad disciplines and 334 subdisciplines, with particularly detailed information on the humanities and social sciences, computing and engineering, and data from growing regions, such as the Asia-Pacific area. Over 24,000 peer-reviewed journals from more than 5,000 publishers, more than 230,000 books and over 9.8 million conference papers, and 44 million patent records are included. The periodicals are in more than 40 languages, and there are more than 600 core peer-reviewed Chinese journals. In addition, the Scopus database includes information on more than 7,000 institutions and over 30 million scholars.

SciVal is a scientific research analysis and scientific research performance analysis platform developed by Elsevier. It contains information on 10,000 research institutions (universities, research institutes, hospitals and enterprises) and more than 16 million scholars worldwide. It could flexibly customize the data of institutions, disciplines, and scholars. It also can be used to review comprehensive research outcomes of the target, to carry out parallel comparison with multidimensional indicators, to evaluate current output of research cooperation and find out potential collaboration opportunity. It is a good tool for researchers to quickly locate the latest global hotspots in each subdivision/custom research area.
