Utilizing WRDS and Compustat to conduct empirical research in Finance
【Database Introduction】
Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) provides the leading business intelligence, data analytics, and research platform to global institutions —enabling comprehensive thought leadership, historical analysis, and insight into the latest innovations in academic research. WRDS is more than just a data platform. Supporting over 75,000 commercial, academic, and government users at 500+ institutions in 35+ countries, WRDS is the global gold standard in data management, innovative tools, analytics, and research services.
Compustat is a comprehensive financial database of S&P Global, which contains information on companies’ operations and financial performance. The database covers 130+ countries, 92,000+ active and inactive companies, and 113,343+ securities, which accounted for more than 97% of the global market capitalization. Financial data can be traced back to 1950 for performing in-depth historical fundamental analysis and research. Executive compensation, share prices, index prices, industry classification codes are included within the package.
