Le Yang Re-elected for IFLA Standing Committee Member

Le Yang has been re-elected to serve another four-year term, 2021-2025, for the International Federation of Library Associations & Institutions (IFLA)’s Section 32 – Library Services to Multicultural Populations. The Section brings together libraries and institutions interested in the development and availability of library services designed to meet the needs of cultural and linguistic minorities. It is striving to share its experience in library services to multicultural populations in view of the necessity to ensure that every member in our global society has access to a full range of library and information services. In order to achieve this, it promotes international cooperation in this field.

Nominated by the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA), Le Yang has been serving as a member then the information coordinator for this standing committee since 2017. During his first four-year term 2017-2021, he has contributed to advocating for Chinese American librarians and bridging the collaboration between CALA and IFLA. He has served as the information coordinator and in charge of the translation project of the IFLA/UNESCO Library Manifesto Implementation Toolkit. The Toolkit has been translated into Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish and made available for downloading on the IFLA website with his effort. He will continue to serve on this translation project and dedicate himself to making more translated materials available to the global community.

Le Yang led WKU Library in joining IFLA as an institutional member in 2019. Since then, WKU Library and other renowned libraries in China started to play an essential role in voicing for Chinese libraries and librarians on the global stage.
