Who does the Writing Center serve?
The WKU Writing Center provides academic support services for all WKU students. Stop by GEH A205 and say hello!
We also support faculty by designing writing workshops for individual courses, providing classroom visits to support activities such as writing workshops and peer reviews.
What is the visit format?
The WKU Writing Center provides 30-minute, one-on-one or small group sessions with faculty, graduate student, or peer tutors in GEH A205. We can meet you in SLAC if you like (please note) We also provide classroom visits, and workshops.
What kinds of writing assistance does the WKU Writing Center provide?
We assist students throughout the entire writing process:
- idea generation
- research
- formatting
- managing collaborative writing projects
- outlining
- first draft writing
- proofreading
- revision
We offer guidance on various academic writing genres and formats, including essays, speeches, PPT slides, webpages, blogs, podcasts and videos.
Where is the Writing Center?
We are located in GEH A205.
What do I bring with me to my Writing Center appointment?
After making an appointment, please email any assignment materials or drafts to your Writing Center consultant/tutor. Also bring a copy of your assignment sheet, and drafts with you to the Writing Center.
How do I make an appointment?
Make an appointment by 1. going to the WKU Resource Booking Page 2. choosing WKU Writing Center 3. selecting a faculty, graduate student, or peer consultant/tutor according to their available time 4. send an email with any assignment sheets or drafts for them to read 5. show up at GEH A205 6. sign out when you are finished by scanning the exit QR code.
What about AI?
The WKU Writing Center follows the university policy on AI, which gives professors say on their courses' AI policy. Familiarize yourself with your professors' AI policies before coming to the WKU Writing Center. Misrepresenting AI generated text as student writing will be considered a violation of WKU's academic honesty code, and may lead to disciplinary action. Please be honest with your consultant/tutor about your use of AI, including translators.
About Us
The WKU Writing Center is an academic support service committed to supporting the mission of Wenzhou-Kean University in developing strong communication, research, and academic writing skills among our students, and providing classroom support for professors with any kind of composition assignment.We assist students throughout the writing process and are willing to engage students across genres, media, formats, and technologies. From pen and paper to videos shorts, we believe that successful academic communications requires thoughtful attention to the "three R's:" wRiting, Rhetoric, and Representation; within the disciplinary conventions for academic or professional prose writing, are sets of rhetorical modes and representational strategies. We acknowledge the diverse and rich linguistic environment of our context here in Wenzhou, meaning that the "three R's" are community-based.
The WKU Writing Center is committed to studying the use of AI in academic writing within an EMI context, including the use of AI translation. Universities are witnessing a sea change in how digital technologies are transforming learning and the communication of ideas within the academy. The WKU Writing Center strives to be a leader in the understanding of these changes in order to best guide our students towards their future successes.
