Knowing Your Library Series: How to Return Item

​WKUers, are you already immersed in the vast sea of books in the library? But don’t forget that every borrowing is accompanied by a responsibility! Do you know how to return books correctly?

Introduction to Book Returns

Patrons can return books at the Self-service Machine or manually by staff on the third floor of the SLAC. After you have successfully returned the book, the system will promptly notify relevant information by sending an email. Below will introduce two ways to return books, please read patiently!

 

Self-service Machine

Step 1:
Place the campus card on the card reader to log in to your account;

 


Step 2:
Click the Return;

 


Step 3:
Place the items you want to return in the designated area of the Self-service Machine;

 


Step 4:
Ensure everything is correctly returned, then click the Finish.


 

After successfully returning a book, a Return Receipt Letter will be sent to your WKU email account, containing relevant return information. If there are any overdue fines for returned books, please go to the Library Service Desk to deal it in a timely manner.

 

Manual Return

If you have trouble with the Self-service Machine, you're always welcome at the Library Service Desk on the third floor of SLAC! All you need to do is put your Campus Card on the reader and hand the borrowed books to our staff, who will complete the book return operation for you. If there are fines, remember to pay them as well!
 

All the above are the specific steps to return books, but only knowing these operations is not enough, you also need to know the following notes.

 

Note

  • In case of overdue books, lost or damaged books, please bring your campus card and promptly go to the Library Service Desk for assistance;
     
  • Fines will be paid with your campus card;
     
  • The time of returning the book is based on the moment you successfully return the book, once the book is successfully returned, the fine will stop calculating on this basis.
     

Everything about Fines

  • How are the library fines calculated?
  • Each book incurs a fine of 1 yuan for each day if it is overdue, accumulating up to a maximum of 500 yuan per book. Therefore, please remember to return your books on time to avoid extra costs!
  • What should I do if I lose a book?
  • If you have accidentally lost your library books, please contact the library staff on the 3rd floor of SLAC as soon as possible. The staff will charge you the cost of books, overdue fines, and a 20 yuan processing fee according to the actual situation. However, if you choose to purchase the books to make up for the loss, you will only need to pay the overdue fine and 20 yuan processing fee.
