Immersive Reading Activity: Collage Poetry Special | Seeking New Voice on Poetry's Page

October 16, 2025 | Upcoming Events | WKU Library

The Cold Dew has arrived, yet the summer warmth seems not fully gone. Still, the heralding goldenrain tree, following nature’s rhythm, has already begun its creation—its clusters of golden buds and fruits announcing the changing season and reminding us that poetry does not depend on the weather, but on perception.

Nature is the original poet, while life itself is a poem authored by each of us. Open a book, and you will find words scattered like fallen leaves, quietly resting between the lines, waiting to be picked up and recombined. They may be a short phrase, a fleeting thought, or a single word—ready to be reborn in your hands as a poem uniquely yours.

On October 29, WKU Library, in collaboration with No. 13 Class, Class of 2029, will host the Immersive Reading Activity—Collage Poetry Feature. We invite you to gather inspiration from your reading and listen to your inner voice through creation. Let the fragments of words take shape under your fingertips, allowing thoughts and emotions to flow freely across the page.

In this late autumn, still tinged with warmth, let us add a touch of warmth to the season with words, and leave a spark of poetry in our lives. Pick up the pages, cut out sentences, and assemble your heartfelt expressions, letting poetry come alive once again in the breath of language.

What Is Collage Poetry?
The creator picks words from books and sticker libraries. By cutting and rearranging existing texts, they break the inherent structure of language. This free-form composition emancipates expression from the rusted shackles of words. This is more than a textual collage; it is a ritual of creation, allowing worn-out words to regain poetry and breath in novel combinations.

14:00-14:30

Participants will choose a book from the activity's recommended list or the library's general collection for immersive reading. Please carefully capture and jot down words and phrases that resonate with you, as they will serve as the spark of inspiration for your collage poetry.

In this open session, we invite you to share your creation—by reading it aloud or projecting it—and connect with others through your unique voice. Let every piece find its echo in this shared space. (This session is optional.)

This Collage Poetry Feature is a special presentation of the Immersive Reading Activity. In the quiet moments of reading, participants assemble words from the pages into personal expressions, transforming the reading experience into the joy of creation, and allowing the words to breathe anew under their fingertips, becoming each person’s unique voice.

WKU Library warmly invites other student class groups to join our Immersive Reading Activity and explore immersive reading features of your own design—you may continue with collage poetry or experiment with other creative formats. Through the interplay of words and creation, let reading expand from a personal experience into a shared connection, allowing literature, thought, and creativity to grow together and come alive through the participation of many.
