Imaginaries / Daydream of an Island
In Imaginaries / Daydream of an Island, the idea of the “island” carries a double meaning. On one hand, it refers to Beice Island, the birthplace of Yanyi Jelly, where Jelly Troupe is currently based. Once a self-organized fishing community formed by the residents of Shuitan Village in Longwan District, Beice gradually turned into an uninhabited island over the past few decades amid social and urban transformations.
On the other hand, the “island” also represents our imagination of a healthy community — a shared space where people can see and hear one another.
During the workshop, we will also introduce the life history of the fishing village within the process of urban gentrification, opening a conversation on community imagination and our collective experiences of city life.
This workshop will focus on the idea of " listening to each other ", where we will collaborate to create the second part of our group's installation—a radio theater, and lead everyone in a few relaxing experimental theater games. We hope that in this brief time, we can listen to each other and in the process of listening, become an "island" together.
The products created in this workshop will become part of the Jelly Troupe's installation and be exhibited in the WKU Library.
We will open registration on the Once platform. After registering on Once, participants will enter the event group to determine the final 10 people who will make the radio device. Please ensure that you have entered the wechat event group to confirm their final spots.
