2024 WKU Library Service Survey

In the past year, WKU Library has always been committed to providing a comfortable and convenient learning environment. To better meet WKUers’ needs, we value every patron’s opinions and suggestions. Therefore, based on the feedback from WKUers in the 2023 WKU Library Service Survey, we have improved some areas and services in the library.

WKUers: The soundproofing of the meeting/discussion rooms is poor, which affects students studying nearby. We hope that it can be improved!

WKU Library: We have posted volume control reminders in all discussion and meeting rooms. Our staff have increased the frequency of patrols and reminded students to stop any unrelated activities within these rooms promptly. WKU library will also negotiate plans to reconstruct the soundproofing conditions.

WKUers: There are no directions within the library. We couldn’t find the exact places in the library.

WKU Library: We have installed additional signage and guides on the east and west sides of each floor in the library, indicating the locations of the main spaces in the library.

WKUers: We don’t know what books are available on each floor and can’t find their locations on the shelves.

WKU Library: We have installed book category signs on the sides of each bookshelf and added detailed maps of the library collections on prominent locations such as elevator doors and walls. Furthermore, in the post How to Read Call Numbers of the Knowing Your Library Series, we have elaborated on the method of reading call numbers to help WKUers find books effortlessly.

WKUers: We are unfamiliar with the library services and unsure how to use them.

WKU Library: We have launched the Knowing Your Library Series on the Wenzhou-Kean University Library official WeChat account, providing a detailed introduction to the services offered by the library so that students can better understand and utilize the library resources.

Knowing Your Library Series Review

WKUers: The problem of seat occupation in the library is too serious, with many seats occupied by items for a long time without anyone using them!

WKU Library: Library staff has been assigned to increase the frequency of routine patrols and remove unattended belongings to the SLAC 302.  Besides, during high-usage periods, such as final weeks, we will increase our patrol times.

WKUers: The collection of Chinese books is a bit limited. I hope more Chinese books can be added!

WKU Library: We are continuously carrying out book acquisition and related work to accelerate the expansion of library resources. We have held several book fairs and welcome all WKUers to recommend books. Besides, all WKUers are welcome to submit a Recommend a Book Request on the library website. We have also purchased additional Chinese databases, such as ChaoXing eBook, enabling WKUers to access relevant Chinese electronic resources through Database A-Z.

Within the scope of our library’s capabilities, we are always committed to continuous optimization and improvement. However, regarding some of the feedback from WKUers, due to various subjective and objective factors, certain problems raised are beyond the direct control of the library. Therefore, we offer the following explanations:

1. Some WKUers have reported that “the library does not respond to emails promptly.” Adhering to our commitment to serving patrons, we have always been dedicated to responding to emails timely. Thus, we sincerely suggest patrons check their mailboxes after sending an email to ensure it has been delivered to the library@wku.edu.cn. We also remind patrons to read the “spam” folder to avoid missing our response. If you have not received a reply for a long time, you can call the library service desk directly at 0577-55870600.

2. Regarding the feedback about the “slow internet speed in the library,” it should be noted that the network system within the library is uniformly planned and equipped by the entire university, which is not within the control of the library. Therefore, in case of any network issues, it is recommended to contact the IT department for technical support.
