From getting to know WKU Library and borrowing books, to searching for resources and reserving facilities, we have prepared a comprehensive library guide to help you complete all your "beginner tasks" in one article. Station 1: Get to Know WKU Library
PART 1: Library Facilities
WKU Library consists of multiple library spaces, including the Student Learning and Activity Center Library, the GHKH Design Library, and the Chen Tianlong Art Museum. These facilities cover a total area of approximately 20,000 square meters.

Station 2: Borrowing Books & Recommending Books for Acquisition
Walking through WKU Library, you will find that collections are organized differently across floors. From searching for a book to locating and borrowing it, each step is connected. Follow this guide and you will quickly become familiar with the library borrowing process.
STEP 1: Books Retrieval & Request
Through the One-Stop Search System Discover, you can enter keywords to search the library's print collections and obtain a book's call number and location information. After finding a book you would like to read, you can submit an online book request. Library staff will prepare the book and place it at the Library Service Desk on the third floor, where you can pick it up and check it out upon arrival.
STEP 2: Find Books by Call Number
Use the call number to identify the floor and collection area where the book is located. Then, check the call number ranges displayed on the sides of the shelves to locate the correct shelf and find the book quickly.
STEP 3: Book Borrowing, Returning, and Renewals
With your campus card, you can borrow and return books using the Self-service Machine on the third floor of SLAC. You can also visit the Library Service Desk on the third floor for assistance from library staff.

If you cannot find the book you need through Discover, don't worry. WKU Library also provides the "Recommend a Book for Acquisition" service, where you can suggest books for WKU Library to purchase and add to its collection.
Station 3: Electronic Resources Retrieval
WKU Library not only provides extensive print collections but also offers access to a wide range of electronic academic resources. This station focuses on how to search for and access electronic resources to support academic research needs.
PART 1: Discover Search System
The One-Stop Search System Discover allows you to search not only for print collections but also for related academic literature by entering keywords.
PART 2: Databases
WKU Library provides access to a wide range of databases and shares databases and electronic resources from Kean University.
Friendly Reminder:
To access WKU databases, please connect to the campus network (no VPN required). To access Kean University databases, please connect to VPN in advance and use your Kean University account.
PART 3: Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary loan is a service that allows libraries to share resources with one another. For literature that is not available in the WKU Library collection, users can request materials in either of the following ways: by submitting a request form or by applying directly through the electronic resource search results page.
Station 4: Facility Reservations & Equipment Use
WKU Library offers more than extensive collections. It also provides a variety of useful spaces and equipment waiting for you to explore.
- Collaborative Spaces
Discussion rooms, meeting rooms, and study rooms are available for group discussions or individual focused study. Please remember to reserve these spaces in advance through the Resource Booking system.

- Relaxation Spaces:
Two massage chairs are available on the west side of the fifth floor of WKU Library. Reservations are required. When you need a break from studying, feel free to use them and take some time to relax.

- Facilities and Equipment
WKU Library provides lockers, phone storage lockers, and a book sanitizer machine to make your study and reading experience more convenient and comfortable.
